Milk...It Does a Body Great

I think milk is a perfect food. It is perfectly balanced and incredibly good for you! I have had some questions regarding the difference between whole, skim and 2% milk on the Zone. Whole milk and 2% are pretty balanced as they are. The ratios of fat to carbs to protein are almost perfect. However, if you are drinking 1% or nonfat milk you will need to add fat in some other area to balance out what you are missing in the milk fat. Milk is a great addition to an afternoon or late night snack, but make sure if you are being strict that you count each cup of milk as 1 block of each marker. Drink up and post thoughts to comments!

  1. remember the less fat in milk, the more bad additives. Robb Wolf suggested to me to buy heavy whipping cream because it is the least processed. You can add your own water to this to make it to you liking for drinking. I use it in my coffee and i just need a tad.

  2. You can also find whole, organic milk here in Santa Cruz. The taste is incredible but it will cost you more than gas per gallon :).

  4. sorry...that was an accident...

    so is it better to use the organic, whole milk instead of 2%. or is it ok to continue with regular 2%?

    i guess i just assumed that heavy whipping cream had a lot of fat in it. i think something my mom told me. and so often i read about using milk with lower fat. ie milk ads...they recommend low fat milk.

  5. fat won't make you fat! it is the suger and the additives that do. look at the labels, the lower the fat, the higher the carbs. this is valuable especially if you are on the NHE diet.

  7. In the "mastering the zone" book Dr. Sears uses 1% milk for most of his recipes. I guess in later books did he change his mind?

  8. Dr. Sears and paleo are not really on the same page. If you are eating paleo, you aren't eating grains or dairy. But what my post meant is that you can make your own 1% or 2% milk, just by adding water to heavy cream. Better you than the producion plant.
