Snack Time...

Snacks can be difficult for some people to put together on the Zone. I tend to eat snacks that are easy to transport because I eat them on the go a lot. There are many great snack combos, and I would love to hear you ideas on this. Here are a few of my favorite "grab and go" snacks.

1 hard boiled egg ( 1 block protein)
1/2 cup applesauce (1 block carb) TreeTop makes an unsweetened cup that is 1 block
3 almonds (1 block fat)

1 cup raspberries (1 block carb) strawberries would work too
1 cheese stick ( 1 block protein) if I use a higher fat cheese I count that as my fat as well
3 cashews (1 block fat)

1 block of turkey or beef jerky- read your labels on these as some are high in fat and carbs
1/2 orange (1 block carb) or 1 whole clementine
6 peanuts (1 block fat)

Zone Bar- 2 blocks
Be careful not to overuse these as snacks. They are higher in sugar than you would like, but in a pinch they work well. Cut in 1/2 for 1 block snack.

any other bars with lower sugar? Also south beach bars are not so bad.

There is a bar called ReBar that is almost all vegetables and fruit, but the taste is not the best. Trader Joe's has a couple I have heard good things about. Maybe we should do a little comparison??? More to come on this subject.

South Beach
6g sugar
3 g su
tastes damn good
I assume sugar alcohol is no better than sugar, and is probably a way to get around the sugar content guidelines set by our enemy the FDA.
So i assume 9 g sugar

I meant 3 g sugar alcohol on line 3brucmeum

Keep in mind is mot just about the sugar content. We also want to make sure we are getting 40-30-30 and some bars do not offer that.

And for a quick 1/2 block snack (or double it for a 1 block)

1 hardboiled egg (1/2 block)
2 tbsp of hummus (I love Trader Joes)

Replace yolk with hummus. I do the 1/2 block b/c it is pretty filling and satisfying.

**I think the hummus has enough fat?

I use to eat a lot of Rebars when our Wholesale Food Store stocked them by the Box. I kind of like the taste and my daughter would even eat them and she turns her nose up at most fruits and veggies (sadly like her dad did at her age). Supposedly 2 cups of fruits and 2 cups of veggies in every bar.

By the way thanks for doing this site I do most of the cooking and I've already used a couple ideas from here.
