Grilled Chicken

With the weather feeling like summer, we have been doing a lot of grilling. This is as easy as it gets. I cut 2 large chicken breasts in to strips and marinated in Teriyaki sauce. The zucchini is sauteed with onion and red bell pepper and about 1 TB olive oil until just tender.
Grilled Chicken- 3 blocks
3 oz chicken (3 blocks protein)
1 cup unsweetened applesauce (2 blocks carbs)
1 1/2 cups zucchini ( 1 block carbs/ 2 blocks fat from oil) (peppers and onions are negligible due to amounts) Post thoughts to comments.

Are you ballparking the fat on the veggies? I'm just looking for some guidance b/c I just re-started the Zone on 1/2/2009 and want to make sure I'm doing it right!

I've dropped 12.5 lbs since I started, so I'm loving it, but I want to continue to drop weight and see this awesome performance spike I've got going on now.

So for recipes like this, you're using 1 TB of oil on the veggies (which is 3 blocks fat) but you are only counting 2 blocks in your final tally.

So when you saute, do you usually count 2/3 of the fat that you cook with as actually ending up on whatever your cooking (whether it be meat or veggies) or are you eye-balling how much fat it picks up?

I did a lot of searching on the CF.com message board, but could only find people that didn't count it speaking up.

Any help is greatly appreciate and sorry for the long post.

Brian,

Great question and the answer is yes! I generally do not add all the fat from oil that I am using to saute because not all of it ends up on the final product. Sorry to make that unclear. For most of my salad tally you will notice that I count the nut and oil fat contents in the total as well. I think if you are using a very small amount to begin with you probably need not count it in your final fat blocks, however, with a full TB I will count most of it.
Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions!

Hey Michele, that's just what I was looking for, thanks!

FYI - I'm loving the Zone. I'm doing it slightly modified per Robb Wolf's directions of reducing some carb blocks and replacing them with fat. I've gone from 222 lbs on 1/2/2009 to 206.5 on 1/22/2009, it's unreal how much weight I've lost and my WODs are going through the roof.

Thanks for the details and the great blog!
